Local History Week

This week, we have all enjoyed a fabulous local history week. All children have been out and about, both in Felbridge and in East Grinstead, and have learnt more about the history of our local area. Geckos Class have learnt about the Evelyn Chestnuts and Row Plait (Rowplatt) Lane; they even had a go at traditional rope making! Monkeys Class learnt all about the Felbridge village sign - the relevance of each element - and have designed their own village signs. Leopards Class enjoyed a trip to St John's Church where they learnt all about the history of the church. They have also learnt about 'famous Felbridge folk'. Did you know that James Spong, who invented the Spong meat mincing machine, is buried in the graveyard at St John's church?! Pandas Class have learnt all about how our house team names are connected to the local area; they have walked along the 'Gullege', visited 'Whittington' college and 'Hedgecourt' Lake and have learnt about 'Hophurst' farm and the 'Evelyn' family. Macaws Class have been to East Grinstead and have learnt about the history of the old Tudor High Street and, back at school, about Felbridge Tudor Iron. Finally, Jaguars Class also visited East Grinstead. They learnt about the history of the church and the bombing of Martells, during WWII, in connection with their current history studies. They also learnt all about how our school was affected during WWII.

Phew! What a fabulous week!

A huge thank you to Stephonie and Jeremy, from the Felbridge and District History Group, for all of their help and support in helping to make the week so successful. They have delivered talks to the children, prepared resources for the teachers and sourced artefacts to help bring the learning alive for the children. Thank you!
