Macaws - Racing to School at Lingfield Racecourse
On Thursday, Macaws Class had a fabulous day at Lingfield Racecourse. We went behind the scenes to the weighing room and saw the horses being unloaded from the horseboxes. We learnt about how the horses are cared for, a little bit about the history of racing and did a lot of maths! We investigated imperial and metric measurements, looked at the weight of the clothing and equipment that jockeys use, learnt about the lengths of different races and the different types of races, looked at the jumps (which were huge!), estimated and measured the perimeter of the parade ring and calculated how many horses could fit in this area, ran a race on the track, had juice and biscuits (very important!) and much more besides. The sun shone throughout and our day ended with us all watching a real life horse race. We had a great day and learnt loads!
