  • Gardening Club

    Fri 30 Apr 2021

We have been learning about lots of new things in Gardening Club.

During the first week we learnt how to plant decorative flower pots.  First we dug compost from the school compost heap (thank you Mr Brand).  Then planted a mixture of viola's, antirrhinum and sunflower's from growing pots to larger plant pots to create an ornamental display in front of the school entrance.

This week we have been creating mini gardens.  First we planned our gardens and selected key resources and then went on a scavenger hunt around the school grounds to hunt for materials for our gardens.  Finally, we started to build our mini gardens.

    We’ve had lots of fun.

  • Class 1 and 2 this Week

    Fri 30 Apr 2021

On Wednesday, Classes 1 & 2 had a special visitor - a lamb called Inky! We listened to information and asked questions all about her, watched her have her bottle of milk and then gave her a stroke. This helped us to understand a little bit more about our topic - animals and animal groups.

With huge thanks to Mrs Murrell for making this possible!

Mrs Benwell recently discovered an old wasp's nest in her loft. She bought it in and classes 1 and 2 had a closer look. We were amazed by the beautiful, precise detail and could not believe it was the work of a wasp!

  • Class 1 and 2

    Fri 23 Apr 2021

On Monday afternoon, Classes 1 & 2 went on an aeroplane flight around the world! The children all had passports, boarding passes, and hand luggage, went through security, boarded the plane, and watched the safety information. Unfortunately, the pilot had forgotten where the flight was supposed to be going, so the children had to use the contents of five suitcases to decide where they were going. Each case had items that could be useful in different habitats, rainforest, desert, polar, ocean and mountain. Once the children figured out where the cases were for, we told the pilot and took off for our trip around the world, visiting each habitat as we went!

This was an introductory activity to our new topic 'Carnival of the Animals' during which the children will be learning more about different habitats and microhabitats, classifying animals in different groups, learning about what different animals, including humans, need to survive and lots more!

Class 3 have  had a wonderful week.  We have worked together to develop our measuring skills by finding ways to measure different areas of the playground and woods, including the trunks of trees. We had a relaxing morning, exploring Mindfulness, Cosmic Yoga. We had a creative morning where amongst other things, we made our own dream catchers to help us sleep by taking away our worries and we made up our own actions for the song, It's OK, please just say.
